Waiheke Walks – Step into Paradise

Waiheke Walks – Step into Paradise

The ferry ticket is your only price of entry—Waiheke Walks / trails are free. From golden beaches to native bush walking is the easiest way to experience the island’s magic.

Through the hard work of volunteers, visitors now have two great resources for planning walks on the island.

  • Walk Waiheke is a dedicated website featuring self-guided walking routes any time of year; and
  • The Waiheke Walking Festival offers community guided walks over festival weekends – a great opportunity to meet new people or bring a group of friends over to explore.

Walk Waiheke – Explore at Your Own Pace

Waiheke Walking Festival – Guided Walks & Immersive Experiences

Held annually (often in November or March), the Waiheke Walking Festival brings together guided walks across coastal tracks, vineyards, bush reserves, and culturally significant sites. Curated for all fitness levels, many walks include added highlights like wine tastings, local storytelling, or wildlife spotting. Small charges apply for shuttles.

  • Group walks & expert guidance — Each walk is led by locals who know the island intimately, making it easier for participants to enjoy without worrying about navigation or logistics.

  • Diverse offerings — Options range from gentle coastal ambles to longer hikes featuring private access or shared meals at vineyards—integrating nature, history, and local flavors.

  • Community & recharge — More than just exercise, the festival is a chance to meet fellow walkers, connect with nature, and return refreshed both physically and mentally.
